The Lake Shallap trek takes place at a more remote location about an hour’s drive from Huaraz. Because of its remote nature, the route is less frequented by travellers, which allows trekkers to have unobstructed and personal access to the untouched landscape. This allows for a greater appreciation of the beauty of nature that surrounds you, with prominent sights of Mount San Juan (5,843m/19,170ft) and Mount Huantsan (6,369m/20,896ft) in the distance.
While the trek is a long one (approximately three and a half hour walk from the starting point of Jancu to Lake Shallap), it is relatively easy as you will be traversing mostly over flat terrain, with the exception of a steep ridge wall about 30 minutes from the lake.
